A slew of Tamil movies were released in 2011 – some raised the bar, some took the standards down to rock-bottom. Some movies were raved about, some not so much. Some movies ran for over 200 days (no, we’re not referring to the Power Star flick), some vanished from our memories as soon as they were released. Here’s our selection of the best Tamil movies from 2011. List below the jump.
Payanam

Plot: A group of villagers who lost their wooden horse used for their temple festival take the protagonist’s horse to finish their prayers for the rain god. At the same time, the villagers refuse to return Appukutty’s horse before his marriage. Will both their wishes be fulfilled?

Plot: A freelancer who dreams to become a wildlife photographer is betrayed by his role model. His wife helps him achieve his dream.
Aaranya Kaandam

Plot: Two rival gangs fight for a bag of cocaine which is stolen by a father and a son. At the same time a boy and a girl who work for one of the gangsters plan to run away with his money.
My list was almost the same. Some changes:
It didn’t have: Mankatha, Deiva Thirumagal, Mayakkam Enna.
