Jerry Seinfeld once said, in a Seinfeld round table, that he was afraid that the show would lose quality after it became successful and when they had more money to spend. Not many people can handle success and money well and Ranjith definitely doesn’t seem like one of them. There are a lot of people who could be at fault for Kabali to turn out to be such a disappointment. I’m sure Ranjth had a lot of pressure on him while making this movie and the result makes it quite evident that he is definitely not capable of handling those so early in his career. To be honest, I did not have much expectations for this film, or for any films nowadays (mainly because apathy has taken over all my emotions lately). This film had every element in it for it to be a whopping success and a colossal failure and we can all be glad that it fell somewhere in the middle.

Idhu Namma Aalu – Intentional Neurotoxic Act
June 6, 2016 by Guest Author
Not a review per se, just a coherent rant about this film I watched recently called Idhu Namma Aalu.
When I exited the theatre after watching Idhu Namma Aalu, I wondered if there’s a word exclusive to the world of Kollywood films, to point out that the film had its fun moments for a few minutes, and for the rest of the time you wished you had every strand of hair pulled off from your skin or be stabbed like Jon Snow. Why don’t they put statutory warning messages ahead of such films?
Let me be the first one to try and coin a term/reference metric that refers to any motion feature which is worth just ten minutes of your time and you are better off watching it on YouTube, as a video titled “Best comedy scene from ….” instead of experiencing an ordeal in the theatre.
*thinks*
INA!
The term is INA- an acronym that stands for Intentional Neurotoxic Act (‘Intentional’ being the operative word.)Fitting, isn’t it? I hope, in the near future we see people use this term widely.
“Macha! How was the movie da?” “It’s not bad. But it’s INA. Better to stay away.”

24
May 13, 2016 by Ajay
I am a huge fan of science fiction films. I am also a huge fan of films that know their audience and spoonfeed them as much as needed. It is not reasonable to have more than 30 minutes of silence involving just primates right in the beginning of the film and expect tamil audience to completely comprehend it the first time they watch it. At the same time, it is also not reasonable to make something like 7aam Arivu and expect people to like it. Indru Netru Naalai found the perfect middle ground in-between recently. And now 24 also has joined the league. It is a good science fiction film with the right amount of spoonfeeding that won’t make any viewer feel too stupid or too smart.

Theri – Unnecessary
April 29, 2016 by Ajay
I decided to start my summer vacation by watching Theri and I blame myself for this decision. Having access to so many awesome stuff through Netflix and HBO GO, I decided to watch this in a stupid cam print (Go ahead. Judge me.). Not watching the movie in a proper theater with a proper audience might have caused me to have a negative opinion about the film but I don’t think the theater experience would have made any impact in my opinion for this excuse of a writing. Apart from the obvious “vijay fans” jerkfest and the “typical commercial masala drama family audience children’s women friendly genre”, I will try to explain what else that did not work out for me in the film. If you are a fan of anyone related to this film and if you have come this far in this review, I would urge you to stop and read some paid reviews like behindwoods or indiaglitz or watch the other annoyance in the name of video reviews. Continue at your own cost.

Thoongavanam
November 16, 2015 by Ajay
How often do you see Yugi Sethu sporting a balaclava and killing people? How often do you see a lesbian couple going for it on screen in tamil cinema? Homosexual implication between the hero and the villain? A kamal film without any unnecessary Kamal fawning? Thoongavanam had all of these. But for someone like me who still hasn’t recovered from the awesomeness of Uttama Villain, Thoongavam needed something much more to make it a great film. The fanboy in me was waiting till the end to jump out of excitement but the movie made the neutral viewer side of me take over rather easily.

O Kadhal Kanmani
April 21, 2015 by Ajay
How beautiful will it be to see the world through Mani Ratnam and PC Sreeram’s eyes. A world where even melodrama puts a smile on one’s face. A world filled with love irrespective of age. A world where relationships are not filmy. A world filled with A R Rahman’s music and Vairamuthu’s lyrics. A world where normalcy is beautiful. This parallel universe is what I experienced in O Kadhal Kanmani.

Valiyavan
March 28, 2015 by Ajay
Where can I start in describing this excuse of a movie? The needless sexism that is present in almost every Tamil movie nowadays? Or the lazy screenplay that has nothing to hold the audience’s attention for more than five minutes? Or brutal slaughter of logic in every other way possible in the name of a story? Or the brilliant exhibition by Jai on how one should should not be a narrator?

I – Why?
January 26, 2015 by Ajay
This post might seem like it contains immoderate usage of the word I which might make the sentences look insensible and with grammatical errors but it is not. All grammar and spelling mistakes found in this article can be blamed on the name of this movie.
So I was bored one night and decided to so something entertaining. And that brilliant decision of entertaining myself was watching I. How awesome right? Even after all those forewarning and cautionary advice, I went to watch I one night expecting it to be shitty as hell. I was actually surprised to find it even shittier. All through the movie the only thought I had in my mind was ‘It took 3 years to make this shit? 3 YEARS?!’ My house was constructed in 6 months with just a fraction of its budget and just staring at its walls looks more interesting to me than spending 3 hours (?!) to watch this excuse of a grandeur.
