Onayum Attukuttiyum – The Violence of the Lambs

Starting with the much clichéd ‘people passing by the man dying on the road’, the first few minutes of Onayum Attukuttiyum didn’t impress much. I wonder why everyone becomes a cold-hearted jerk when it comes to helping a wounded man on the road. Starting from the guy who takes a picture of the man to ‘post it on Facebook’ to the police officer who steals his watch instead of filing a complaint, we have to put up with the same crap for some time until the typical ‘Mysskin character’ (a beggar or a physically or mentally disabled man) comes out of nowhere to help out the lone protagonist trying to save the man. This is when the director makes an entrance. Mysskin can even show his name during these scenes in all his movies like Bhagyaraj or T.Rajendar used to do.

Soodhu Kavvum – The indisputable gamble

A few days back in an interview, Nalan said “Not even a single scene or a dialogue in the whole movie will be unrelated to the script. Every single thing that is happening and every character who appears on the screen will provide a strong support to the story”. This is what intrigued me the most to watch this movie. It is surprising to see that the movie has actually lived up to his word.

Paradesi – The saddest nomad

Have you ever been in a situation where you are forced to feel the sadness just because everyone else around you is sad? Sounds more like a Bala movie? Yeah, something like that. But in Paradesi, I actually felt sad for some people in that movie, if not all. Every single character in the movie is either evil or a cowardly slave. If someone is happy for sometime, they either die in the next scene or become a slave for the rest of their lives.I could rather say that this was probably the saddest of all his films.

அமீரின் ஆதிபகவன்: ஏமாற்றம்

ஆதிபகவன் ஆறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு அமீர் இயக்கியிருக்கும் திரைப்படம். ஜெயம் ரவி இரட்டை வேடம், ஹாலிவுட் படத்திற்கு இணையான சண்டைக்காட்சிகள் என்று விளம்பரப்படுத்தி எதிர்பார்புகளை ஏற்றி விட்டிருந்தார்கள். படத்திற்கு வேறு ‘a mafioso action love story’ என்று வித்தியாசமாக ஒரு tagline. சரி அமீர் எதாவது புதிதாக எடுத்திருப்பார் என்ற அபாரமான நம்பிக்கையில் படத்திற்குச் சென்றேன். சமீப காலமாக அமெரிக்காவில் துப்பாக்கி கலாச்சாரம் பெருகி வருகிறது என்றும் துப்பாக்கியைத் தடை செய்ய வேண்டும் (விஜய் ரசிகர்கள் மன்னிக்கவும்) என்றும் பலர் குரல் குடுத்து வருகிறார்கள். அமெரிக்காவில் மட்டுமல்ல தமிழ் சினிமாவிலும் துப்பாக்கி கலாச்சாரம் பெருகி வருகிறது. சமிபகால தமிழ்ப் படங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து பார்த்து வரும் அனைவரும் இதை கவனித்திருக்கலாம். படம் நெடுக துப்பாக்கியைத் தூக்கிக் கொண்டு எதிரில் வருபவர்களை எல்லாம் காக்காய் குருவியைச் (மீண்டும் விஜய் ரசிகர்கள் மன்னிக்கவும்) சுடுவது போல் சுட்டுத் தள்ளுபவர் தான் ஹீரோ.

Alex Pandian – A disgrace to the name

Mindless alliterations, unnecessary and stupid rhyming words, cars flying here and there and puke-evoking fight sequences are some of the vast list of givens in a Suraaj movie. Despite knowing all this, the only reason for which people still prefer to watch his movie is that a small portion in everyone’s heart still hopes that there might be at least some comedy sequences like Thalainagaram or Maruthamalai. He did give us a fair warning through Padikkathavan and Mappillai but we didn’t listen to him. The movie which started with a half filled theater ended with just me and a few more theater workers.

என்ன டைட்டில் காப்பினு நினைகிறிங்களா, அவன் அவன் படத்தையே காப்பி அடிக்கிறான் டைட்டில் தானே, ப்ரீயா விடுங்க

இந்த பதிவேடுல , இந்த வருஷம், அதாவது 2012ல வந்த படங்கள்ல ஏதேது தியேட்டர்ல செம்மயா ஒடிச்சு, ஏதேது தியேட்டர் தியேட்டரா ஒடிச்சு , ஏதேது தியேட்டர்ல இருந்து ஆடியன்ச ஓட வச்சுருக்குனு பாக்கப்போறோம். இதெல்லாம் சொல்றதுக்கு யாரா நீ? அப்படினு பிரகாஷ்ராஜ்க்கு BP(!) வந்த மாதிரி நிறைய பேர் கத்துறது எனக்கு இங்க வரைக்கும் கேக்குது. நீங்க தெரிஞ்சுக்க வேண்டிய அளவுக்கு நான் ஒண்ணும் பெரிய ஆள் இல்லிங்க. Advance booking பண்ணாம, அங்க இங்க காச தேத்தி, கஷ்டப்பட்டு லைன்ல நின்னு டிக்கெட் வாங்கி, “சுவிஈ…” னு விசில் அடிச்சுட்டே first day first show பாக்குற ஒரு சாதாரண தமிழ் குடிமகன். இந்த கட்டுரைல நான் சொல்லப்போவதெல்லாம் என்னுடைய பார்வையில் இருந்து மட்டுமே.

இந்த வருஷம், இந்த தேதி வர மொத்தம் 139 படங்கள் வந்துருக்கு (Wikipedia துணை). இந்த 139 படங்கள்ல, “படம் செம்மயா இருக்கும் மச்சி”னு போய் மொக்க வாங்குன படங்கள் நிறைய இருந்தாலும், “கண்டிப்பா மொக்கையா தான் மச்சி இருக்கும்”னு போய் ‘வாவ்’னு வாய்ல வாட்டர்பாக்கெட் வச்ச மாதிரி வியந்து பார்த்த படங்களும் கொஞ்சம் வந்திருக்கறது ஆறுதல் தர்ற விஷயம். Wikipediaவ உத்து பாத்ததுல ஒரு விஷயம் புரியுது. மாசத்துக்கு ஒரு படம் நல்லா வந்துருக்கு, ரொம்ப எதிர் பார்த்த படம் ஒண்ணு ஏன்டா வந்துச்சுனு இருக்கு.

நீதானே என் பொன்வசந்தம் – கெளதம் மேனனின் காதலும் கசக்கும்

இப்பொழுது தமிழ் சினிமாவின் புதிய டிரென்ட், படம் வெளிவரும் முன்னரே சகட்டு மேனிக்கு பப்ளிசிட்டி செய்து படத்திற்கு எதிர்பார்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்தி நல்ல ஒபெனிங் காண்பது. ஆனால் அநேகமான நேரங்களில் இது எதிர்மறை விளைவையே ஏற்படுத்துகின்றது. இந்த வருடம் தமிழ் சினிமாவில் துப்பாக்கியைத் தவிர மற்ற பெரிய இயக்குனர்கள் மற்றும் ஸ்டார்களின் படங்கள் எவையும் சரியாக ஓடவில்லை. தாண்டவம், முகமூடி, பில்லா, மாற்றானைத் தொடர்ந்து நீதானே என் பொன் வசந்தமும் அந்த பட்டியலில் இணைந்து விடுகிறது.

Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom – Perfectly Glued

You don’t see many movies without any major promotions releasing nowadays. They either decorate the cities with the ’50 days’ poster even before its audio gets released or TV channels play serials and movies in between the movie’s trailer. Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom mainly used social networking sites for promotions (the trend that is catching up). This movie has still managed to be the talk of the town during its release – partly because of the promotions given by various cine personalities in social networking sites. In the era of ‘over hyped – under performing’ movies, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom is the exact opposite.

பீட்சா: சுடச்சுட

நாளைய இயக்குனர் நிகழ்ச்சியில் இருந்து கோலிவுட்டுக்கு இறக்குமதியாகியிருக்கும் மற்றுமொரு புதுமுக இயக்குனர் கார்த்திக் சுப்பராஜின் முதல் திரைப்படம். இவரது குறும்படங்கள் Youtubeஇல் மிகவும் பிரசித்தி பெற்றவை. படத்திற்கு வழக்கத்துக்கு மாறாக பீட்சா என்று பெயரிட்டதிலிருந்தே நம்மை கவர்ந்து விடுகிறார் இயக்குனர். குறும்படங்கள் எடுப்பதன் மூலம் கிடைத்த அனுபவங்கள் இந்த படத்தில் மிகவும் கைகொடுத்திருக்கின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியையும் நேர்த்தியாக படம் பிடிக்க மெனக்கெட்டிருப்பதை திரையில் காண முடிகிறது. விரல் விட்டு எண்ணக் கூடிய அளவுக்கு மட்டுமே கதாபாத்திரங்களைப் படைத்து (இதுவே படத்தின் ப்ளஸ்) சாமர்த்தியமான திரைக்கதை அமைத்து திடுக்கிடும் திருப்பங்களுடன் திறம்பட படத்தை நகர்த்தியுள்ளார்.

மாற்றான் – தடுமாற்றம்

அயன் மெகா வெற்றிக்கு பிறகு மீண்டும் கே.வி. ஆனந்த-சூர்யா கூட்டணியில் வெளிவந்திருக்கும் திரைப்படம். ஒரு சமூகப் பிரச்சனையை கையில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு தனக்கே உரிய பாணியில் காதல், humour action, pub பாடல்கள் என திரைக்கதையைப் பின்னி படத்தை ஒரு கமர்சியல் கலவையாக வழங்கியிருக்கிறார் ஆனந்த. படத்தின் நாயகர்களாக ஓட்டிப் பிறந்த இரட்டைப் பிறவிகளான (conjoined twins) சூர்யாவின் பாத்திரத்தைப் படைத்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர். போராட்ட குணத்துடன் சமூக அக்கறையும் கொண்ட விமலனாகவும் யாருக்கு என்ன நடந்தால் நமக்கென்ன என்ற சுயநலத்துடன் வாழும் அகிலனாகவும் இரு வேறு முரணான பாத்திரங்களை ஏற்று கச்சிதமாக நடித்திருக்கிறார் சூர்யா.
